USO of Illinois Supports Homebound Troops During the U.S. Armed Forces Annual Holiday Mass Exodus This Weekend at O’Hare
United Service Organizations (USO) of Illinois will offer food, shelter, travel assistance and all the comforts of home to thousands of troops making their way home for the holidays during the U.S. Armed Forces annual Holiday Mass Exodus. USO O’Hare centers will stay open 24 hours a day beginning Friday, December 16th through Sunday, December 18th, 2011. USO Centers are a “Home Away from Home” for active duty military and offer reading libraries, free Wi-Fi access, lounge facilities, computers, phone, snacks and TV/DVD/Video Games. This holiday weekend marks the One-Year Anniversary of the USO American Airlines Cyber Canteen O’Hare Center and the launch of the United Through Reading® program at the airport. United Through Reading® offers parents who are about to be deployed the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks to their children which helps unite families emotionally while they are separated physically.
The USO of Illinois serves over 300,000 active duty, guard and reserve military and military families throughout Illinois and the Midwest region with over 300 programs and services offered year-round, and USO Center facilities at Navy Pier, Midway Airport, Great Lakes Naval Station, O’Hare Terminal 2, USO American Airlines Cyber Canteen at O’Hare Terminal 3 and the Rock Island Arsenal.
