Dear Prospective USO Volunteer:

Greetings from the USO of Illinois and thank you for your interest in supporting the troops! The USO of Illinois is here 24/7, 365 days a year to deliver comfort and to enhance the morale and well-being of all our service members and their families. The USO of Illinois operates six USO Centers in Illinois in addition to providing year-round recreational, educational, social and supportive services and programs to troops and their families. We are proud to have serve over 300,000 U.S. Armed Forces members and their families annually, and are proud to be the link that brings together military and civilian communities to serve those who serve our country.

Since 1941, USO of Illinois volunteers have been at the heart and soul of lifting the spirits of America’s troops and their families throughout the state of Illinois. This section of our website is designed to provide you with information regarding volunteer opportunities and needs within the USO of Illinois.

USO of IL Center Location Volunteer Information:

The USO of Illinois operates six USO Centers in Illinois. Volunteers are needed to serve on regular and recurring shifts to keep all USO of Illinois Centers open for business during their center-specific hours of operation. Volunteers at a USO Center location can expect a typical day to include:

  • Greeting troops or military families and checking ID’s for access into the facility
  • Providing assistance to guests within the USO Center as needed

Volunteer Requirements for USO Center Locations:

  • Complete and submit the on-line Volunteer Interest Application Form
  • Attend and successfully complete a USO of Illinois Center Location Volunteer Orientation and Training Session (hosted year-round as needed at each Center)
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age to volunteer at a USO of Illinois Center Location, unless accompanied by a legal parent or guardian.
  • Be willing to submit and have approved a background check as required by the City of Chicago and the Department of Aviation to be issued an airport security badge to be considered for volunteer shifts behind Airport Security at the USO American Airlines Cyber Canteen at O’Hare and USO Midway locations.
  • Be willing to apply for and successfully qualify to receive a Great Lakes Naval Training Station base pass, or currently have a base-issued pass to gain access and entry on the Great Lakes Naval Training Station military facility.

Volunteer Requirements for Special Events & Programs:

  • Complete and submit the on-line Volunteer Interest Application Form
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age to volunteer at a USO of Illinois Center Location, unless accompanied by a legal parent or guardian
  • Attend and successfully complete a Volunteer Training Session, if necessary, prior to the Event or Program

Once you submit and register your Volunteer Interest Application form on-line, a member of the USO of Illinois staff will contact you to learn more about your interests and to share some of the exciting opportunities for current and prospective volunteers to support America’s troops and their families. Please know that volunteers serve at the sole discretion of the USO and the organization can elect to engage or discontinue a volunteer’s services at any time. Completing a Volunteer Interest Application form does not guarantee engagement in USO volunteer activities. Volunteers are recruited on an as-needed basis.
